Kochi Metro 'Komet' will be ready by 2016

With the Centre giving its clearance for the Rs.5,182 crore metro rail project, the Kochi metro is expected to be running by 2016 in the Aluva-MG Road-Pettah corridor, covering a distance of 25 km.

5182 crores for a distance of 25Kms? Wow, that is a true statement of affluence. And it's certainly to the pleasure of vintage lovers: the picture shows something that looks like a train from the early 20th century... There are solutions way more sophisticated and way cheaper at the same time - and they could augment Kochi's reputation as a progressive place. But then maybe I am just thinking a tad to futuristic and economic and don't consider all those traditionalists that need trains to look ugly and cost looooaaaaaads of money.
